South Carolina Electric and Gas Rate Hike

SC Electric and Gas is getting ready for another increase on your utility bills!  The new rate takes effect on bills starting October 30, 2010.  I suggest with the onset of colder weather on the horizon now is a good time to make sure your home is energy efficient.  Try following a few of these simple tips for starters.

  • Reverse your ceiling fans' direction by keeping them at a low speed in a clockwise direction, the blades will create an updraft, taking full advantage of the fact heat rises. This reverse air circulation helps to move hot air downward toward your living space and eliminate hot and cold spots.
  • If your home has a fireplace, be sure to keep the damper closed whenever you don't have a fire going — an open damper is like an open window.
  • In addition to weather stripping and sealing leaks around your windows and doors, your choice of window treatments can make a big difference in your home heating costs. Insulated curtains save energy by helping to reduce drafts and heat loss, which may save you money!
  •  According to the U.S. Department of Energy, lowering your water temperature 10 degrees Fahrenheit will lower your energy costs by 3 to 5 percent.
  • Simply keep your thermostat at about 68 degrees Fahrenheit during the day and if you're cold, reach for a sweater. For each additional degree you lower the temperature (in the 60- to 70-degree Fahrenheit range) you continue to save cash — up to 5 percent on your heating bill.

Facebook Friend or Foe

As you may have heard there has been several reports of "so-called" Facebook friends using information gathered on Facebook to target homes for burglaries.

According to several local news outlets in Nashua, N.H., police say they've arrested three young men allegedly responsible for about 50 burglaries in the city last month. It is believed that the suspects "used social-networking sites such as Facebook to identify victims who posted online that they would not be home at a certain time."

It may be better to treat your social network site as you would a distant relative and not a bosum buddy.  Share but be careful how much!  It's always been sort of amusing to me on how much we value and trust our "friends" on Facebook, when we know that in real life some of them don't even "like" us!

So my final word of caution, before divulging all of your who, what, when, and where on social networking sites, ask yourself the question WHY should I even post this?!  In conclusion, don't forget to share this with all your friends.....

What I find interesting..professionally and personally

Hi Friends,

I have always enjoyed reading and sharing new things.  I guess my thought of becoming a teacher kinda makes sense.  I am a real estate agent, thus I educate people on the different dimensions of real estate.  Keep in mind I also once dreamed of being a psychiatrist too!  I'd rather not tell you how that is playing a part in my profession.....anyways,I digress please subscribe as I plan to create this NewsReal for a place for more than just telling stats, showcasing my listings,or otherwise soliciting for referrals.  This will be a site to see!

Now keep in mind I do have to have time to help people buy, sell,or  rent homes so though I may not post everyday, every post will be worthwhile.  Well gotta go don't forget to share...If your my friend you know my mantra "if you help enough other people get what they want you'll get what you want!"

Green really does mean GO!

Green to go , Go Green. The post is regarding the upcoming Earth Day. I know the scientific reasoning for going green on April 22 and I am 100% for that. But  must admit the vain side of me is just happy to have one more day included on my calendar that I can wear my "where is she going with THOSE green pumps"!Mia Women's Reese Peep Toe Heel  No I'm not Irish...yes I wore them on St Patrick's day.
Nevertheless, I digress, April 22 is Earth Day so in it's honor I'm including some ways of doing your part. So whether you chose one of the items below or not, just DO something because as the quote from Wendell Barry states "The earth is what we all have in common.”
  1. Save energy to save money.
  2. Use a reusable container for your water.
  3. Eat smart.
  4. Borrow instead of buying.
  5. Buy in bulk.
  6. Make your own cleaning supplies.
  7. Recycle old cell phones
  8. Plant a garden
  9. Drive the speed limit
  10. Opt for paperless billing
Ok Girls and Boys, Remember April 22, is Earth Day....Go Green!
